The 12 x Oxford Lighting Columns was adapted by AJBernasconi-Design.co.uk to accept this extended pole and take the strain of the catenary wire that supports the 12 volt festive lighting.
The Extended Capital has connecting arms with eyes to connect to the Stainless shackles to support the 22 m spans. The cable enters the column through brass weather tight glands and down the pole to the base of the column where the transformers are housed. Behind this hinged access door a 240 v RCD socket is supplied for stall holders to use during festive events organised by the Borough Council.

The Bedford Columns were replaced by the Borough Council on the Embankment after the County Council's refurbishment of the Town Bridge.
The Boroughs Columns were cast in Ductile Iron, so as to support both road lighting, on Galv Twin Brackets and with support eyes cast into the Capital to carry the 12 v festive lighting. The 12v cable enters the Capital via a brass gland into the base of the Column to the transformer supply.
